How do I factory reset a Fitbit Versa 4 stuck after an interrupted update?

Answer

When a Versa 4 is stuck after an interrupted update, a force restart often restores the setup screen so you can pair again. If it still will not connect, a factory reset from the restart sequence or Fitbit app setup path is usually required.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • A factory reset removes apps, settings, and locally stored fitness data from the watch.

Follow these steps

  1. Charge and force-restart the watch

Place the Versa 4 on its charger. Press and hold the side button for about 10 seconds until the screen goes dark or the Fitbit logo appears, then release and wait for it to reboot.

You should see: The watch restarts and either returns to a normal home screen or shows a setup/pairing prompt.

  2. Try pairing again in the Fitbit app

On your phone, open the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture, choose Set up a device, and select Versa 4. Follow the on-screen pairing steps while the watch is nearby and charged.

You should see: The app finds the watch and continues setup, or it shows a clear error you can act on.

  3. Factory-reset if Settings are still unreachable

If the watch still will not connect, keep it on the charger and use Fitbit’s button-hold reset sequence for Versa 4 until the watch erases local data and returns to the initial setup screen. Confirm any on-watch reset prompt before continuing.

You should see: The watch wipes its local data and shows the language or pairing setup screen.

  4. Set the watch up as new

In the Fitbit app, run Set up a device again and choose Versa 4. Sign in with your usual Fitbit or Google account and finish pairing.

You should see: The watch pairs successfully and can sync again after the interrupted update.

Extra tips

What to look for: A frozen logo, blank or looping screen, failed pairing in the Fitbit app, or no response when you try to open Settings on the watch.

Before you change anything: Leave the Versa 4 on its charger while you troubleshoot so it does not die mid-recovery. Note that a factory reset erases watch data and removes the current pairing. Use only the official Fitbit or Google Fitbit app from your phone’s app store. Never share account passwords or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
