Do need to bring a QR code for movie tickets at the theater?

Answer

Yes. Most theaters scan a mobile QR code or barcode from the ticket app or confirmation email at the door. Open the tickets before you reach the scanner and turn the screen brightness up so the code reads cleanly.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not follow unexpected links that ask you to pay again to unlock tickets you already bought.

Follow these steps

  1. Open the tickets before you reach the door

Open the Fandango app, theater app, wallet pass, or confirmation email and display the QR code or barcode before you get in line.

You should see: The ticket screen with a scannable code is ready on your phone.

  2. Turn up screen brightness

Increase the phone brightness so the scanner can read the code easily, and avoid screen protectors or cases that cover the code area.

You should see: The QR code is bright, sharp, and fully visible.

  3. Scan or show the code at entry

Hold the phone steady under the scanner or show it to the ticket attendant. If the scan fails, pinch to enlarge the code or switch to a screenshot of the same ticket.

You should see: The ticket validates and you are allowed into the correct auditorium.

  4. Use a backup if the phone will not display the code

If the phone dies or the app will not open, use a printed confirmation or ask the box office to look up the order with the confirmation email and purchase details.

You should see: The theater can still admit you with the order details or a printed code.

Extra tips

What to look for: A QR code or barcode in the ticket app, confirmation email, or wallet pass, plus the theater name, showtime, and seat details matching your purchase.

Before you change anything: Confirm the tickets are for the correct theater, date, and showtime. Download or screenshot the QR code before you leave in case signal is weak at the door. Make sure the phone has enough battery to display the code. Use only the official ticket app or email you already received.
