How do I check an International Day Pass and stop unexpected travel charges?

Answer

International Day Pass and similar travel features must be confirmed in the carrier account for the exact dates of use. High overage notices usually mean the pass was not active for that day, data was used outside the pass rules, or a usage alert threshold was hit.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not share account passwords or one-time codes with anyone who calls you about the overage.

Follow these steps

  1. Read the exact notice and usage dates

Open the carrier message or email and note the dollar amount, dates, and whether it mentions Day Pass, roaming, or data overage.

You should see: You have the billed period and notice wording written down.

  2. Verify Day Pass status in the official account

Sign in on the carrier website or app and check Travel or International settings for whether Day Pass was on for each travel day, plus recent data and call usage.

You should see: You can see which days were covered and which usage was billed outside the pass.

  3. Turn off roaming features you do not need

On the iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular and temporarily disable Cellular Data or Data Roaming if you are still abroad and want to stop further charges while you sort the account.

You should see: New data use stops until you intentionally re-enable service.

  4. Contact official carrier support about the bill or suspension

Call or chat through the carrier’s official support using the number on your bill or the app’s Help section. Ask them to confirm Day Pass enrollment dates and reverse incorrect charges or restore a suspended line.

You should see: Support confirms coverage, adjusts the bill, or explains the remaining balance needed to restore service.

Extra tips

What to look for: Day Pass active dates, roaming usage lines on the bill, and the exact suspension or overage notification text.

Before you change anything: Screenshot the overage or suspension notice. Gather travel dates and the phone number on the line. Use only the carrier’s official app or website to review charges.
