How do I fix a CD stuck in a Bose Wave Music System IV?

Answer

Try the official eject control and a longer power reset first. If the Wave IV clicks and shows CD Error, the slot-loading mechanism likely failed mid-cycle—stop forcing objects into the slot and use Bose support or a qualified technician rather than prying the disc out.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Forcing a stuck disc can shatter the CD or damage rollers.

Follow these steps

  1. Try eject with the unit powered

Press the Eject control once and wait through any loading sounds without pressing repeatedly.

You should see: The disc ejects, or the unit clicks without releasing it.

  2. Do a longer power reset

Unplug the Wave system for at least 5 minutes, plug it back in, power on, and try Eject once more.

You should see: The disc comes out, or CD Error/clicking returns immediately.

  3. Inspect without inserting tools

With power off, look into the slot with a light for a visibly crooked disc edge. Do not pull with tools if you cannot grip the disc easily by hand with almost no force.

You should see: You either gently retrieve a barely protruding disc, or you confirm it is fully trapped.

  4. Contact Bose or a technician

If CD Error and clicking continue, contact Bose support or a qualified audio technician for loader service rather than forcing the slot.

You should see: You have a service/replacement path without further mechanical damage.

Extra tips

What to look for: CD Error on the display, repeated clicking from the slot, and whether the eject key produces any movement.

Before you change anything: Unplug the unit before any inspection. Do not insert knives, tweezers, or cards into the slot. Note the exact CD Error wording. Have the Bose serial number ready for support.
