How do I fix a ResMed AirSense 11 CPAP that will not turn on?

Answer

Plug the AirSense 11 directly into a working wall outlet with the original ResMed power supply, wait 30 to 60 seconds, then press Start/Stop once. If it still stays dark after a tip-over or error 12, inspect for water in the wrong place and contact the equipment provider before forcing more resets.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • CPAP machines are medical devices; do not open the case, cut cords, or use a non-approved power adapter.
  • Running the device after a tip-over with water in the wrong place can cause electrical damage or unsafe therapy.

Follow these steps

  1. Test power at the wall

Unplug the AirSense 11 from any power strip or extension cord and plug the ResMed power supply directly into a known-working wall outlet.

You should see: The outlet is live and the power brick is firmly connected at both ends.

  2. Wait, then press Start/Stop

Wait 30 to 60 seconds after connecting power, then press the Start/Stop button once without holding other controls.

You should see: The display lights up or the device begins its normal startup.

  3. Check after a tip-over

If the machine tipped, remove the water tub, look for moisture where it should not be, and let parts dry as directed in the AirSense 11 user guide before trying again.

You should see: There is no visible water in electrical areas, and a retry is safe per the guide.

  4. Note the error and contact support

If the unit still will not turn on or returns error 12, write the code and contact your durable medical equipment provider or ResMed support for service options.

You should see: You have an error record and a clear next step from the supplier or manufacturer.

Extra tips

What to look for: Any light or screen activity after connecting power, an error such as error 12, and whether the machine was recently tipped or exposed to a fan or moisture.

Before you change anything: Use only the original ResMed power supply made for the AirSense 11. Check that the outlet works with another device. Do not open the sealed device or bypass safety parts. If the unit was tipped with water in the humidifer, stop and follow the provider’s cleaning guidance before reuse.
