How do I fix Fitbit sign-in or step display problems after Google account changes?

Answer

After the Fitbit-to-Google migration, the watch and phone app must be signed into the same Google account that now owns the Fitbit data. Updating the Google password, signing in through the official Fitbit app, then syncing or restarting the watch usually restores step display and login.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Factory resetting the watch can wipe unsynced fitness data; sync first when possible.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm the Google account password on the web

On a browser, sign in at accounts.google.com with the Google account tied to Fitbit. Use Forgot password only on Google's official page if needed.

You should see: You can sign into that Google account successfully on the web.

  2. Sign out and back into the Fitbit app

Open the Fitbit app, sign out if a stale Fitbit login remains, then sign in with the same Google account and accept any migration or permission prompts.

You should see: The app shows your device and recent activity under the Google-linked account.

  3. Sync, then restart the watch

Pull to sync in the app. On a Versa 4, hold the buttons to restart, then wait for a fresh sync with the phone nearby.

You should see: Today's steps match or begin updating on both the watch and app.

  4. Re-add the device if sync never completes

In the Fitbit app account settings, remove the device and set it up again with the working Google account. Prefer this over a factory reset until sync setup fails.

You should see: The watch pairs cleanly and step counts display again.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the Fitbit app shows a Google sign-in prompt, whether sync completes, and whether the watch and app disagree on today's step count.

Before you change anything: Know which Google account was used for the Fitbit migration. Reset the Google password only through Google's official account pages if login fails. Back up or note Fitbit premium or payment details tied to the account. Never share Google passwords or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
