How do I fix no dial tone on a Frontier cable phone line?
Answer
When every phone loses dial tone but internet still works, the phone path through the Frontier modem or terminal is usually the issue—not the handsets. Isolate with one corded phone plugged into the Tel 1 port, then power-cycle the Frontier box before reconnecting cordless bases.
Follow these steps
Disconnect every phone device
Unplug all phones, cordless bases, splitters, fax machines, and DSL/phone filters from every wall jack so nothing else is on the phone line.
You should see: Only the Frontier modem/terminal remains connected for the voice test.
Test with one corded phone on Tel 1
Plug one simple corded phone directly into the phone port on the Frontier modem or terminal, usually labeled Tel 1. Lift the handset and listen for dial tone.
You should see: You either hear dial tone at Tel 1, or you confirm there is still none even with a basic phone.
Power-cycle the Frontier voice equipment
If there is still no dial tone, unplug power from the corded phone test setup and the Frontier box for about 15 seconds. Plug the Frontier modem or terminal back in first, wait until it fully finishes starting, then reconnect the corded phone to Tel 1 and test again.
You should see: Dial tone returns on Tel 1, or the no-tone condition remains after a full restart.
Reconnect house phones only if Tel 1 works
If Tel 1 has dial tone, reconnect one cordless base or wall phone at a time. Stop when dial tone disappears so you can identify the bad base, splitter, or jack.
You should see: You know whether the Frontier port is healthy and which house-side device is causing the failure.

Extra tips
What to look for: No dial tone on every phone jack, internet still working, and any “No Link to Base” message on a cordless handset.
Before you change anything: Confirm you have Frontier cable/voice phone service, not a separate landline carrier. Note whether internet is still working on the same modem. Unplug cordless bases and fax machines before testing so only one phone is on the line. Never share account passwords or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
