How do I fix a filament buffer resistance error after replacing a 3D printer filament sensor?

Unload the filament completely and inspect the whole feed path—AMS slot and hub if used, filament buffer, PTFE fittings, printer inlet, and extruder entrance—for snags, kinks, or poor seating that create resistance after a sensor swap.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Forcing filament through a stuck buffer or PTFE path can damage the extruder gears or break fittings.
  • Power down before probing connectors if you are unsure whether the circuit is live.

Follow these steps

  1. Unload filament completely

    Use the printer’s unload or retract control to remove filament from the toolhead, then pull the filament fully out of the buffer and AMS path if present. Do not leave a short stub in the PTFE tube.

    You should see: No filament remains in the AMS hub, buffer, PTFE run, or extruder entrance.

  2. Inspect the full feed path

    Check the AMS slot, AMS hub, filament buffer, PTFE fittings, printer inlet, and extruder entrance for crushed tubing, misaligned connectors, debris, or a tube that is not fully seated after the sensor work.

    You should see: You find and correct any kink, gap, or poorly seated fitting that could add resistance.

  3. Reseat the new filament sensor and connectors

    Confirm the replacement sensor is oriented correctly, its connector is fully locked, and nearby tubes were not pulled tight or twisted when the sensor was installed.

    You should see: The sensor sits flush, wiring is secure, and tubes are not under tension.

  4. Reload filament and run a short feed test

    Reload filament through the cleaned path, then run a load or feed test from the printer menu without starting a full print.

    You should see: Filament feeds smoothly and the buffer resistance code does not return.

  5. Retry a small print if the path looks clear

    If the error is gone, print a small test model. If the same resistance code returns immediately, stop and recheck PTFE length, buffer seating, and whether the replacement sensor matches the printer’s required part.

    You should see: The test print starts without the buffer resistance error, or you have a clear next part to replace.
