Follow these steps
Check other contact lists
Open the Contacts app, tap Lists in the top left, and look under iCloud, Gmail, Exchange, and On My iPhone to see whether the contacts still appear in another list.
You should see: The missing contacts reappear under one account list, or every list is empty of those names.
Confirm Contacts sync settings
