How do I clear an intermittent E1 code on an appliance door display?
Answer
Start with a full unplug for 10–15 minutes, then restore power and set normal temperatures. If E1 returns on the door display, the door control board or its connectors may need reseating—only open the outer door panel when your model allows it and power is disconnected.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Disconnect power before removing door panels or control screws.
Follow these steps
Unplug for a full control reset
Unplug the unit from power for 10 to 15 minutes so the door display and control board fully discharge.
You should see: The display is blank and stays off while unplugged.
Plug in and set normal temperatures
Restore power, wait for the controls to wake, and set the compartment temperatures back to the normal settings recommended for your model.
You should see: E1 stays off, or it reappears and you proceed to inspection.
Open the outer door panel only if supported
With the unit unplugged again, remove the outer door panel using your model’s fastener layout. Do not force clips or glass that are not meant to be user-serviced.
You should see: The door control assembly is visible, or you stop because access is not straightforward.
Reseat the door control assembly
Remove the control assembly fasteners (some units use two T20 Torx screws), check ribbon/wire connectors for moisture or looseness, reconnect firmly, reassemble the panel, and plug the unit back in.
You should see: E1 remains cleared after several hours of normal operation, or service/replacement of the door control is needed.

Extra tips
What to look for: E1 on the door panel, error that disappears after a reset then returns, temperature controls on the door, Haier or similar fridge/freezer branding
Before you change anything: Find the model number on the appliance label. Decide whether E1 is constant or intermittent. Unplug before any panel work. Stop if the unit is under warranty and you prefer dealer service.
