How do I update Safari on iPhone when a website says to update the browser?

On iPhone, Safari updates with iOS—there is no separate Safari app update in most cases. Update iPhone software in Settings, then retry the site. Temporarily allowing pop-ups can also help if the site opens a required window.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not choose Erase All Content and Settings to fix a browser warning—that deletes everything on the iPhone.
- Only use the government or agency official website address; fake update browser pages are a common scam.
Follow these steps
Update iPhone software
Open Settings > General > Software Update. Install any available update and wait for the restart to finish. Safari engine updates with iOS.
You should see: The phone shows it is up to date, or the update installs successfully.
Retry the site in Safari
Open Safari, close old tabs for that site if they look stuck, then open the official site address again and retry the form.
You should see: The update-browser warning is gone, or the same message remains and you try pop-up settings next.
Allow pop-ups temporarily if needed
Go to Settings > Safari and turn off Block Pop-ups. Return to the site and complete the step that needed a new window, then turn Block Pop-ups back on.
You should see: The site required window opens and you can continue the form.
Try another updated browser if the site still blocks you
Install Chrome or Edge from the App Store if the agency lists them as supported, update that app, and open the same official URL there.
