How do I fix a Fitbit Versa 4 screen that is not responding?

Answer

A non-responsive Versa 4 screen is usually fixed with a forced restart by holding the side button for 10–15 seconds. If the watch still will not wake or sync, charge it fully, then retry pairing in the Fitbit/Google Fitbit app.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • A long button hold restarts the watch; unsynced recent activity may not be saved.

Follow these steps

  1. Force-restart the Versa 4

Press and hold the side button for a full 10 to 15 seconds, then release. Wait for the Fitbit logo or home screen to appear.

You should see: The watch restarts and the screen responds to taps again.

  2. Charge if it will not wake

If the screen stays dark, clean the charging contacts, seat the watch firmly on the charger, and leave it charging for at least 20–30 minutes before trying the button hold again.

You should see: A charging indicator appears, or the watch eventually powers on.

  3. Check phone sync after the restart

On the paired phone, open the Fitbit app, confirm Bluetooth is on, and try syncing. Note any error message on the phone or watch.

You should see: Sync completes, or a specific connection error appears.

  4. Toggle Bluetooth and retry

If sync still fails, turn Bluetooth off and on on the phone, keep the watch unlocked/nearby, and sync again from the Fitbit app.

You should see: The Versa 4 reconnects, or the same sync failure repeats.

  5. Use official Fitbit help if still frozen

If the screen never recovers after charging and a long button restart, follow Fitbit’s official Versa 4 restart/setup help or contact Fitbit support with the exact symptoms.

You should see: You either restore the watch or have a clear next support step.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the screen stays black or frozen, any error messages on the watch or phone during sync, and whether the watch responds after a 10–15 second side-button hold.

Before you change anything: Place the watch on its charger and confirm the charging contact is clean. Keep the paired phone nearby with Bluetooth on. Note any recent water exposure or drops. Do not share account passwords with unexpected callers offering remote fixes.
