How do I fix Ember 14 oz mugs that will not charge or heat?
Answer
When both Ember mugs fail at once, start with the shared charger contacts, then reset each mug and check that the charger pins spring freely. Clean the gold rings on each mug, hold the bottom power button for about 14–15 seconds to reset, and gently free any stuck low pins on the charger plate.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not use liquids, metal tools, or abrasive cleaners on the contacts or charger pins.
Follow these steps
Inspect the mug contact rings
Turn each mug over and check the two gold contact rings on the bottom. Wipe them gently with a dry cloth or dry cotton swab until the metal looks clean and dry.
You should see: The gold rings are free of residue, moisture, or heavy discoloration.
Check the charger plate pins
Look at the gold points or spring pins on the charger plate. Press each low pin gently a few times with a dry cotton swab or fingertip to see whether it pops back up freely.
You should see: Every pin springs back and sits at a similar height.
Reset each mug
On the bottom of the mug, hold the power button for about 14 to 15 seconds, then place the mug back on the charger and wait for a light or status change.
You should see: The mug shows a reset or charging indication, or still stays dark.
Charge one mug at a time
Leave one cleaned, reset mug centered on the charger for 2 to 3 hours. After that, test heating, then repeat with the second mug.
You should see: At least one mug charges and heats, or both still fail on the same charger.
Isolate mug versus charger
If neither mug works after cleaning and reset, try another compatible Ember charger if available. If only one mug fails on a known-good charger, that mug likely needs support or warranty service.
You should see: You can tell whether the charger plate or a specific mug is at fault.

Extra tips
What to look for: Clean gold contact rings on the mug bottoms, charger pins that spring back up, and any light or app response after a 14–15 second reset.
Before you change anything: Unplug the charger plate before cleaning contacts. Use only a dry cloth or dry cotton swab on the gold rings and pins. Do not submerge the mug base or charger in water. Test one mug at a time so you can tell which part failed.
