How do I fix an iPhone that keeps showing a software update prompt?

Free enough storage for the update, connect to Wi-Fi and power, then try Install Now from Settings > General > Software Update. If the prompt keeps returning without finishing, delete the incomplete update download and download it again.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not force-restart repeatedly during an active install unless the phone is frozen for a long time; interrupting can extend recovery time.
- Only update through Settings on the iPhone or official Apple desktop software, not third-party update tools.
Follow these steps
Check free storage
Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and free at least several gigabytes by deleting large unused apps, old videos, or Offload Unused Apps if needed.
You should see: Enough free space appears for iOS to download and install the update.
Try the update from Settings
Connect to Wi-Fi, plug in power if possible, then open Settings > General > Software Update and choose Download and Install or Install Now.
You should see: The update downloads and progresses past Preparing or Verifying without immediately failing.
Remove a stuck update download
If the update never finishes, return to iPhone Storage, tap the iOS update entry if listed, choose Delete Update, then download it again from Software Update.
You should see: The old incomplete package is removed and a fresh download starts.
Update with a computer if needed
If on-device install still loops, connect the iPhone to a Mac or PC, open Finder or Apple Devices/iTunes, and update from there using Apple’s official software.
