How do I recover a phone left in an Uber or rideshare car?
Answer
Open the Uber trip in the rider app or Help page, report a lost item for that ride, and follow Uber’s contact path for the driver. In parallel, use Find My or Google Find My Device if the phone still has battery and location sharing was on.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Be cautious of scam messages asking for payment or gift cards to “return” the phone outside the official Uber lost-item process.
Follow these steps
Open the trip in Uber
Sign in to the Uber rider account, open Activity or Trips, and select the ride where the phone was left.
You should see: You see the correct trip details, including time and route.
Report the lost phone
Use Uber Help for that trip and choose the option for a lost item. Follow the prompts to contact the driver or request help locating the phone.
You should see: Uber shows a lost-item contact path or confirmation that the request was submitted.
Try Find My or Find My Device
On another device, open Apple Find My or Google Find My Device with the account on the lost phone. Play a sound or note the last location if it appears online.
You should see: You see a current or last-known location, or the phone is listed as offline.
Use a safe lock-screen contact method
If you enable Lost Mode or a lock-screen message, leave a friend or family callback number rather than your only remaining phone number if you no longer have service on the lost phone.
You should see: Anyone who finds the phone can see how to reach you without needing your account password.

Extra tips
What to look for: The exact trip in Activity or Trips, Uber’s lost item or Help options for that ride, and whether Find My still shows the phone online.
Before you change anything: Confirm the date, time, and pickup or drop-off location of the trip, such as an airport ride. Use only the official Uber app or uber.com Help while signed into the rider account. Do not share banking details or one-time codes with anyone claiming to have the phone. Avoid factory-resetting a replacement phone until you have tried Find My and Uber lost-item help.
