How do I find an iPhone left in a car using Find My?
Answer
On another Apple device or at iCloud.com/find, select the missing iPhone and turn on Lost Mode right away. Mark it as lost even if it does not appear online yet, then contact the car company or driver with the last known location if you have one.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Erase This Device should be a last resort because it removes the ability to see location updates after the erase completes.
Follow these steps
Open Find My for the missing iPhone
On another Apple device open the Find My app, or go to iCloud.com/find on a browser, and select the missing iPhone from the device list.
You should see: The phone appears with a map location, a last-seen time, or an Offline status.
Turn on Lost Mode immediately
Choose Lost Mode or Mark As Lost, enter a phone number where you can be reached, and add a short lock-screen message.
You should see: Find My confirms Lost Mode is pending or active for that iPhone.
Mark it lost even if it is offline
If the phone does not appear online, still mark it as lost so it locks and reports a location the next time it connects.
You should see: Lost Mode remains armed for the next network connection.
Contact the car or ride company
Call the rental desk, rideshare support, or parking operator with the vehicle details and the last Find My location or time.
You should see: They can check the vehicle or lost-and-found while you continue tracking in Find My.
Play a sound if the car is nearby
If Find My shows the phone nearby, use Play Sound while searching the seats, consoles, and trunk area.
You should see: The iPhone plays an alert you can hear, or stays silent if it is out of range or powered off.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether the phone appears in Find My as Online or Offline, the last location timestamp, and any Lost Mode confirmation on screen.
Before you change anything: Use a trusted Apple device signed into the same Apple ID, or the official iCloud Find Devices page. Have a phone number you are willing to show on the lost-device lock screen. Note the car service, rental company, or ride details before calling them. Never share Apple ID passwords or verification codes with unexpected callers.
