How do I contact support about a series of unexpected charges?

Answer

Gather the charge dates, amounts, and merchant names from your bank, card, or service bill, then contact the company that billed you through its official app, website, or phone number on the statement. Ask for a billing representative and have your account details ready; do not use phone numbers from unexpected texts or popups.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Scammers often pose as billing support. Hang up on unexpected callers and use only numbers from your statement or the company’s official website.

Follow these steps

  1. List every charge in question

Open your bank, card, or service statement and write down each charge’s date, amount, and merchant name. Note whether any look like trials, renewals, or the same company repeating.

You should see: You have a short list of the charges you want explained or disputed.

  2. Identify the billing company

Match the merchant name to a known app, subscription, phone carrier, or store. Search the company’s official website for “billing support,” “contact us,” or “manage subscription”—avoid ads or text links.

You should see: You know which company billed you and have an official support path.

  3. Contact a billing representative

Call or chat using the number or link on the official site or statement. Ask to speak with billing about the series of charges, and have your account email, last four of the card, and charge list ready.

You should see: You reach support and receive an explanation, refund path, or next steps for each charge.

  4. Follow up with your bank if needed

If the merchant cannot help or the charges look fraudulent, contact your bank or card issuer’s official fraud/dispute line and reference the same charge list.

You should see: The bank opens a dispute or gives clear guidance on what happens next.

Extra tips

What to look for: Charge dates, amounts, merchant or descriptor names, subscription names, and the official support phone or chat link on the company’s website or statement—not from a random email.

Before you change anything: Screenshot or write down each disputed charge before calling. Confirm which company or card was billed. Use only official support contacts from the bill, app, or company website. Never share full card numbers or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
