How do I stop a Roland GS-24 from feeding extra material and cutting the wrong direction?
Answer
Extra material feed and unexpected cut direction on a Roland GS-24 are usually job setup issues in Flexi Sign’s Cut/Plot or Production Manager settings, not a broken cutter. Check origin/position, paneling or weed-border spacing, and blade depth before sending another full sheet.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Keep hands clear of the moving carriage and media while the cutter is running.
Follow these steps
Check blade depth on the cutter
On the GS-24, confirm the blade holder depth is set for the current material so the cutter is not compensating for a shallow or overly deep cut during feed tests.
You should see: Blade depth matches the material, and a short test scratch or cut looks clean.
Open the queued Cut/Plot settings
In Flexi Sign 10, open the job, then open Cut/Plot or Production Manager settings for that queued cut to the Roland GS-24.
You should see: The cut setup panel shows position, size, rotation, and cutter options for the job.
Correct origin and job position
Check the job position or origin setting and align it with where the GS-24’s origin is set on the machine so cutting starts at the expected corner instead of feeding past the design.
You should see: Preview or position values match the intended start corner on the media.
Remove extra borders or panel spacing
Look for weed border, panel margins, tiling/paneling, or extra spacing around the design and turn off anything that adds feet of unused feed before the cut path.
You should see: The cut preview no longer shows a large empty lead-in or unexpected panel offset.
Run a small test cut
Send a small test shape on scrap material and watch feed direction and start position before cutting the full design.
You should see: The GS-24 starts near the origin with little wasted feed and cuts in the expected orientation.

Extra tips
What to look for: Cut/Plot or Production Manager settings for origin/position, rotation, weed border, panel margins, tiling, and the GS-24’s current origin on the machine.
Before you change anything: Confirm Flexi Sign 10 is the software sending the cut. Use a small test cut on scrap material first. Note the current origin and blade depth before changing them. Do not force the media while the cutter is moving.
