How do I fix a Fitbit Versa that will not sync?

Answer

Most Versa sync problems come from Bluetooth being off, the Fitbit (or Google Fitbit) app needing a manual sync, or the watch needing a restart. Start with a manual sync in the app, then restart the watch and phone Bluetooth if it still fails.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Unpairing or removing the device can require setting up the watch again and may affect locally stored data that has not synced.
  • Use only the official Fitbit or Google Fitbit app from the App Store—avoid unknown “sync fixer” apps.

Follow these steps

  1. Try a manual sync

Open the Fitbit app, tap the watch icon or your profile picture, select the Versa, and choose the sync option (often Sync now). Keep the app open and the watch unlocked nearby.

You should see: The app shows a successful sync or a clear error message.

  2. Confirm Bluetooth and app permissions

On iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth and confirm Bluetooth is on. In Settings > Fitbit (or the Google Fitbit app), allow Bluetooth and, if prompted, background app refresh.

You should see: The phone can see the Versa or the app is allowed to use Bluetooth.

  3. Restart the Versa and phone Bluetooth

Restart the Versa using Fitbit’s restart method for your model, turn Bluetooth off and on on the phone, then open the app and sync again.

You should see: The watch reconnects and sync completes.

  4. Reinstall or update the app if sync still fails

Update the Fitbit app from the App Store. If needed, forget the Versa in the phone’s Bluetooth list only after noting you may need to set up the device again in the Fitbit app, then pair and sync again from the official app.

You should see: The Versa pairs cleanly and syncs without repeating the previous failure.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the app shows the Versa as connected, a recent sync time, or an error while syncing

Before you change anything: Confirm which Versa model you have and that the official Fitbit app is installed. Keep the watch charged enough to stay on during sync. Note whether sync stopped after a phone or app update. Never share your Fitbit or Google account password with unexpected callers.
