How do I pay a past-due Apple iCloud storage or Apple ID bill?

Answer

Past-due iCloud charges are paid through the Apple ID payment method on appleid.apple.com, the Media & Purchases settings on an Apple device, or the official Apple Support Billing and Subscriptions pages—not through random third-party “bill pay” links.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Only update billing on Apple’s official website or device Settings—never through links in unexpected emails, texts, or popups.

Follow these steps

  1. Open Apple ID payment settings

On an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, tap your name, then Payment & Shipping. On a computer, sign in at appleid.apple.com and open Payment methods.

You should see: You see the cards or payment methods linked to the Apple ID.

  2. Update the payment method

Add or edit a valid debit or credit card tied to an account that can cover the balance, then save the changes.

You should see: Apple shows the new or updated payment method as active.

  3. Retry unpaid purchases or iCloud storage

Return to Settings > [your name] > iCloud or Subscriptions, or check Media & Purchases, and complete any prompted unpaid charge. If payment still fails, use Apple’s official report-a-problem or Billing & Subscriptions support flow.

You should see: The past-due amount clears, or Apple shows a specific decline reason you can fix.

  4. Confirm iCloud is working again

After payment succeeds, open Settings > [your name] > iCloud and confirm storage and sync features are no longer blocked.

You should see: iCloud storage or subscription status no longer shows unpaid or past due.

Extra tips

What to look for: Messages about unpaid Apple ID charges, declined payment, iCloud storage almost full, or a request to update billing information.

Before you change anything: Sign in only on appleid.apple.com, Settings on your Apple device, or account.microsoft.com only if Windows is unrelated. Have a debit or credit card that can charge the amount due. Do not pay anyone who calls or texts asking for remote access or gift cards. Never share your Apple ID password or verification codes with unexpected contacts.
