How do I reactivate a Telstra SIM deactivated for inactivity?
Answer
Contact Telstra through official channels soon after deactivation; recently deactivated numbers are sometimes recoverable, but older inactive numbers may be reassigned.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Paid 'number recovery' services outside Telstra are often scams.
Follow these steps
Confirm the phone detects the SIM
Insert the Telstra SIM, restart the phone, and check whether Settings shows the SIM with no service or an invalid SIM message.
You should see: You know if the hardware SIM is detected.
Contact Telstra reactivation support
Sign in to the Telstra account or call official support, explain inactivity deactivation, and ask to reactivate the service and retain the number.
You should see: Telstra either restores the number/SIM or explains it is no longer available.
Complete any identity checks
Provide the account details and ID Telstra requests through official channels only.
You should see: The account is verified for reactivation.
Test calls and set up a new SIM if required
If a replacement SIM is issued, insert it, wait for signal, and place a test call; update the number elsewhere if Telstra could not keep the old one.
You should see: Service works on the restored or new number.

Extra tips
What to look for: Deactivation notice timing, account number, and whether the phone shows no service versus a SIM error
Before you change anything: Have your Telstra account details and ID ready. Note how many days ago the SIM was deactivated. Use official Telstra app, site, or phone support only. Never share one-time codes with unexpected callers.
