How do I recover a Samsung phone after accidentally setting a new PIN?

Answer

On recent Samsung software, after several failed attempts look for Forgot PIN/Password/Pattern and use Samsung account verification if offered. Also check whether the previous lock is still accepted for a limited time after the change, often discussed as up to about 72 hours on newer One UI versions.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Factory reset erases local data that was not backed up.
  • Paid unlock services that ask for remote access are often scams.

Follow these steps

  1. Try Forgot PIN with Samsung account

After the lock screen’s failed-attempt delay, tap Forgot PIN/Password/Pattern if shown and complete Samsung account verification.

You should see: Samsung account unlock lets you set a new lock, or the option is not offered.

  2. Try the previous lock if the change was recent

If you changed the lock recently, carefully try the prior PIN, pattern, or password in case Samsung still accepts the previous credential for a limited period.

You should see: The old lock opens the phone, or it is rejected.

  3. Verify cloud backups before any wipe

From a computer or another phone, sign in to Google Photos, Google Contacts, and Samsung account cloud/gallery pages to see what is already saved.

You should see: You know which data is safe if a reset becomes necessary.

  4. Use factory reset only as last resort

If no unlock path works, boot to recovery and perform Wipe data/factory reset, then sign in with the previous Google account for Factory Reset Protection.

You should see: The phone resets to setup, or FRP requires the prior Google credentials.

Extra tips

What to look for: Forgot PIN/Password/Pattern on the lock screen after failed attempts, and whether a previous lock still works.

Before you change anything: Try remembered older PINs carefully without excessive rapid guessing. Confirm cloud backups from another device before wiping. Have Samsung and Google account passwords ready.
