How do I respond to a device contact or access request?
Answer
Treat unexpected device or contact requests cautiously. Approve only requests you initiated on a trusted device, and deny anything that appears during a cold call, popup, or message you did not expect.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Callers who demand that you approve a device request are often running an account-takeover scam.
Follow these steps
Stop and identify the source
Read the full request text and note which app or service is asking. If a caller is telling you to approve it, hang up and handle it yourself later.
You should see: You know which account or app produced the prompt.
Approve only expected requests
If you were signing in or pairing your own device, approve on the trusted screen. If you were not, choose Deny, Cancel, or Ignore.
You should see: Unexpected requests are blocked and expected ones complete.
Review recent devices
Open the official account security or devices page for that service and remove any unknown sessions or devices, then change the password if something looks wrong.
You should see: Only recognized devices remain signed in.

Extra tips
What to look for: The exact app or service showing the request, whether you started a sign-in or pairing, and any phone call pressuring you to approve it.
Before you change anything: Do not approve a prompt while on an unexpected call. Confirm the request in the official app settings yourself. Use a unique password and available two-factor prompts only on official screens. Never share verification codes.
