How do I turn cellular back on after deleting an eSIM on iPhone?

Answer

On many iPhones, deleting the only cellular plan removes the line until a carrier plan is installed again. Turning “cellular” back on usually means re-adding the carrier eSIM or physical SIM—not finding a hidden toggle that restores service without a plan.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Deleting an eSIM removes that line from the phone until the carrier issues a new plan.

Follow these steps

  1. Check Cellular status

Open Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) and see whether any plan is listed or the only action is Add eSIM.

You should see: You confirm there is no active line, or a plan is present but turned off.

  2. Turn plans on if one still exists

If a cellular plan still appears, enable Turn On This Line / Cellular Data for that plan. If nothing is listed, skip to carrier reactivation.

You should see: An existing plan reconnects, or you confirm a new plan must be installed.

  3. Get a new eSIM from the carrier

Contact your carrier and request reactivation or a replacement eSIM QR code for this iPhone. Dual-SIM or transferred-number cases may need the carrier to release the old eSIM first.

You should see: The carrier provides a QR code, app install flow, or manual activation details.

  4. Add the eSIM on the iPhone

Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM and scan the carrier QR code, or choose Enter Details Manually if the carrier gave SM-DP+ address and activation code.

You should see: The plan installs and Cellular shows signal for calls and texts.

Extra tips

What to look for: Settings → Cellular prompts to Add eSIM, No SIM messages, and whether a physical SIM tray is available on your model.

Before you change anything: Confirm whether this iPhone uses eSIM only or also a physical SIM. Have your carrier account access ready to request a replacement eSIM. Do not delete another plan unless you understand service will stop. Never share carrier one-time codes with unexpected callers.
