How do I undo accidental display zoom that makes an iPhone unusable?
Answer
If Zoom was enabled, a three-finger double-tap often toggles it off immediately. If the whole UI is stuck in a huge text or zoomed display mode, use a force restart and then reduce Display Zoom or Text Size in Settings once you can navigate.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- A factory reset is unnecessary for display zoom problems and would erase data.
Follow these steps
Toggle Zoom with three fingers
Double-tap the screen with three fingers. If Zoom is on, this often immediately zooms back out to a usable view.
You should see: The magnified Zoom overlay turns off or becomes manageable.
Force restart if you still cannot navigate
On iPhone 11, quickly press volume up, quickly press volume down, then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
You should see: The phone reboots and may be easier to control.
Set Display Zoom back to Standard
Open Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Zoom and choose Standard, then confirm. Also check Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and reduce larger text or view settings.
You should see: Icons and text return to a normal size.
Turn off Zoom in Accessibility if it returns
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Zoom and turn Zoom off so a later accidental gesture does not enlarge the screen again.
You should see: Zoom stays disabled.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether the entire Home Screen is magnified with panning, versus simply very large text and control sizes.
Before you change anything: Try the three-finger Zoom gesture before erasing the phone. Do not factory reset for a display-size problem. A second person can help tap small targets if needed.
