How do you change the payment method for a ChatGPT subscription?
Answer
Sign in to the same ChatGPT account that owns the subscription, open Settings > Subscription or Manage my subscription, then update the payment method there. If you paid through Google Play or the App Store, change the card in that store account instead.
Follow these steps
Sign in with the subscription account
Open chatgpt.com or the ChatGPT app and sign in with the same Google or email account that created the plan. If the plan is missing, try the other login method you may have used.
You should see: Your profile shows Plus, Team, or another paid plan under Subscription.
Update payment on the ChatGPT website
Go to Settings, open Subscription or Manage my subscription, then choose Update payment method and save the new card.
You should see: The payment method updates and the next bill date still shows.
If you subscribed in Google Play
On Android, open Google Play > profile > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions, find ChatGPT, and update the payment method there.
You should see: Google Play shows the new card for the ChatGPT subscription.
Confirm a small test or next invoice
Check that the plan stays active and that any failed-payment banner clears after the update.
You should see: The subscription remains active with no payment-failed warning.

Extra tips
What to look for: You want to replace the card on a ChatGPT or OpenAI plan, or the plan disappears when you sign in with a different method.
Before you change anything: Confirm which email or Google account shows the active ChatGPT plan. Check recent bank charges for openai.com, ChatGPT, Google Play, or Apple. Use only the official ChatGPT site or app—never a random payment link.
