How do you set up a DJI Air 3S drone for the first time?
Answer
Charge the aircraft and controller, install the official DJI Fly app, power on in order, and complete activation while signed into your DJI account. Follow the in-app binding prompts if the controller will not link.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Follow local aviation rules; do not fly near airports or over people.
- Download DJI Fly only from official sources to avoid malware.
Follow these steps
Charge and update the app
Charge the Air 3S batteries and controller. Update DJI Fly to the latest version before powering the aircraft.
You should see: DJI Fly opens without update errors and batteries show charge.
Power on and connect
Power on the controller, then the aircraft, and connect the phone to the controller as shown in the manual. Open DJI Fly and wait for the live view or device connection screen.
You should see: DJI Fly detects the Air 3S.
Activate and bind
Sign in to your DJI account and complete activation/binding prompts. If the controller is not linked, use the app’s pairing or binding option and follow the stick or button sequence shown.
You should see: Activation completes and the controller is bound to the aircraft.
Run preflight checks
Complete compass/IMU prompts if asked, set a return-to-home height, confirm GPS readiness outdoors, and do a short low hover only after checklists pass.
You should see: The aircraft is ready for a controlled first flight.

Extra tips
What to look for: The DJI Air 3S is new and will not finish activation or controller setup in DJI Fly.
Before you change anything: Charge the drone and controller fully. Install DJI Fly only from DJI’s official source or your phone’s app store as directed by DJI. Choose an open outdoor area for the first GPS link after activation. Follow local drone laws and registration rules.
