Why does Life360 show location lines for only one person on the map?

Answer

Life360 history lines appear when the app has a usable location trail for that member. Missing or uneven lines usually mean that one phone has weak location sharing, Low Power Mode, or the app was swiped away—not that every member should always show identical paths.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Changing another adult’s phone settings should be done with their permission.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm what the lines represent

Open Life360, tap the member’s bubble or target/focus control, and note whether history lines appear only after recent travel. If someone has not left a location, little or no path is expected.

You should see: You can tell whether missing lines are normal inactivity or a tracking problem.

  2. Turn off Low Power Mode on the problem phone

On that member’s iPhone, open Settings or Control Center and turn Low Power Mode off so background location is less likely to be restricted.

You should see: Battery saver is off and Life360 can keep updating location more consistently.

  3. Verify location sharing and restart

In Life360, confirm location sharing is enabled for that member. Fully close and reopen the app if needed, then restart the phone once.

You should see: The member shows as sharing location without a paused or offline status.

  4. Keep Life360 signed in and running

Open Life360, leave it signed in, and avoid swiping it away from the app switcher. Allow Location access set to Always when iOS asks, plus precise location if offered.

You should see: New movement begins to fill in on the map for that member like the working user.

  5. Update the app and maps stack

Update Life360 and iOS. Life360 map rendering depends on Apple Maps or Google Maps data, so outdated software can make overlays look incomplete.

You should see: Map trails and member locations refresh more reliably after updates.

Extra tips

What to look for: History or path lines after tapping a member, Location Paused notices, large jumps, missing indoor movement, or battery status that blanks or jumps oddly for one phone.

Before you change anything: Confirm which circle member is missing lines and which phone they use. Ask that person not to force-close Life360 during troubleshooting. Avoid turning off location services for other important apps without noting current settings. Never share Life360 login codes with unexpected callers.
