Why does a Pixel show “mobile network unavailable” after a SIM swap?
Answer
Power off, reseat the SIM, turn the phone back on, and confirm the SIM is enabled in Network & Internet settings. If it still fails, update the carrier settings/APN from the carrier and verify the Pixel is compatible with that SIM’s network.

- Do not share account PINs with unexpected callers offering to “activate” the SIM remotely.
Follow these steps
Power off and reseat the SIM
Turn the Pixel completely off, remove the SIM, reinsert it firmly in the correct orientation, then turn the phone back on.
You should see: The SIM is detected in settings.
Enable the SIM
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs and make sure the SIM is on for mobile data and calls.
You should see: The SIM toggle is enabled.
Toggle Airplane Mode
Turn Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds, turn it off, and wait for network registration.
You should see: Bars and a carrier name appear, or the error remains.
Carrier settings and compatibility
Check APN/carrier settings from the official carrier instructions, and confirm the Pixel model is allowed on that network; contact the carrier if the same SIM still works only in the old phone.
You should see: Service returns or the carrier adjusts the IMEI/SIM pairing.
