Why is my UK roaming data not working in the USA?

Answer

Turn on Data Roaming for the travel line, manually select a partner network such as T-Mobile if automatic selection fails, and set Mobile Data to the Lebara line instead of a secondary or unknown line.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Only change APN values using official carrier instructions for your brand of SIM.

Follow these steps

  1. Enable data roaming

Go to Settings > Mobile Data / Cellular, open the Lebara or travel line options, and turn Data Roaming on.

You should see: Data Roaming is enabled for the travel line.

  2. Pick the mobile data line

Go to Settings > Mobile Data and select the Lebara line instead of Secondary or Unknown.

You should see: Lebara is the line used for cellular data.

  3. Try manual network selection

Go to Settings > Mobile Data > Network Selection, turn Automatic off, wait a minute, then try T-Mobile or another listed partner.

You should see: The iPhone attaches to a partner network.

  4. Toggle Airplane Mode

Turn Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds, turn it off, and retest a webpage with Wi-Fi disabled.

You should see: Mobile data begins working, or a carrier APN/support check is needed next.

Extra tips

What to look for: No LTE/5G data icon, Data Roaming off, Network Selection set to Automatic, and Mobile Data assigned to Secondary or Unknown instead of Lebara.

Before you change anything: Confirm the roaming bundle is active in the Lebara or carrier account. Keep Wi-Fi available for account checks. Note whether calls or SMS still work without data. Avoid random APN apps from unknown sources.
