Why is there no dial tone after replacing a cordless phone battery?

After a battery swap, cordless phones often lose registration with the base or need a line/power reset. Re-seat the battery, power-cycle the base and phone-line cord, then re-register the handset if your model requires it.

Follow these steps
Reseat the new battery
Power the handset off if possible, reopen the battery compartment, make sure the pack or cells are oriented correctly and firmly connected, then close the cover and charge on the base for several minutes.
You should see: The handset shows a stable battery level and stays on.
Reset base power and line
Unplug power from the base and unplug the phone-line cord for one full minute, then reconnect the line cord first and power second.
You should see: Base lights return and the handset reconnects.
Clear hold and test dial tone
Press the handset Off or End key, then talk or line key, and listen for dial tone. If your model has a registration or link button, follow the base label to re-register the handset.
You should see: Dial tone returns and an outside call can be placed.

What to look for: An on hold message, no dial tone, a handset that powers on but cannot call out, or a base light that is off or blinking.
