Why won’t WhatsApp verify on a new phone after the SIM was lost or replaced?
Answer
WhatsApp sends the login code to the phone number on the account. If that SIM is gone, wait for the SMS timer, then choose the voice-call option. If calls also fail, ask the carrier to restore or port the number to the new SIM, then request a fresh WhatsApp code. Do not keep guessing codes from unknown helpers.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Never share a WhatsApp verification code or two-step PIN with anyone. Support will not call you asking for it.
Follow these steps
Confirm the number works on the new SIM
On the new phone, verify you can place a normal call and send a text with that number. If calls or SMS fail, contact the carrier and finish activating or porting the number before retrying WhatsApp.
You should see: The phone number is live for outbound calls and SMS on the replacement SIM.
Request WhatsApp verification again
Open WhatsApp, enter the full number with the correct country code, and request the SMS code. Wait until the on-screen timer finishes—do not keep tapping resend every few seconds.
You should see: Either the SMS arrives, or the screen offers another verification method after the timer.
Use the voice-call option
When the timer ends, tap Call me (or the similar voice option). Answer the automated call and enter the code shown or spoken. Keep the app open in the foreground while you wait.
You should see: WhatsApp accepts the code from the call and continues setup on the new phone.
Secure the account after you get in
Once signed in, review Linked devices and log out any unknown sessions. Turn on two-step verification in WhatsApp Settings with a PIN only you know. If you still cannot receive any code after the number is active, use WhatsApp’s official in-app support or help center contact path for registration issues.
You should see: Only your current phone is linked, and two-step verification is enabled.

Extra tips
What to look for: SMS countdown timer, Call me / Missed call verification options, carrier confirmation that the number is active on the new SIM, and whether WhatsApp still shows Linked devices activity you do not recognize.
Before you change anything: Confirm the number is active for calls and SMS on the new SIM first. Use only the official WhatsApp app from the App Store or Google Play. Never share the 6-digit WhatsApp code with anyone who messages or calls you. If you suspect someone else is using the account, note recent device activity before changing settings.
