How do I block the SIM after I lose my phone?
Answer
Contact your mobile carrier right away through its official app, account site, or the support number on a bill or the carrier website and ask them to suspend or blacklist the SIM/line. Also use Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) to lock or erase the handset if you can still sign in from another device.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Only use carrier support numbers and sites you look up yourself. Scammers often call about "lost phones" and ask for one-time codes—never share those codes.
- Erasing a lost phone deletes the data on it and may stop further location updates; suspend the SIM first if your priority is stopping calls and charges.
Follow these steps
Contact the carrier to suspend the SIM
Using another phone or computer, open your carrier’s official website or app, or dial the support number printed on a bill. Ask to report the device lost and to suspend or blacklist the SIM/line immediately.
You should see: The carrier confirms the SIM or mobile line is suspended and can no longer place calls or use mobile data.
Lock or locate the phone remotely
For iPhone, sign in to Find My on iCloud.com or another Apple device and mark the phone Lost / enable Lost Mode. For Android, use Google Find My Device to lock the phone. Do this in addition to the SIM suspend.
You should see: The handset is locked with a message and cannot be used without your passcode.
Change important account passwords
From a trusted device, change passwords for email, Apple ID or Google account, and banking apps that may have been logged in on the lost phone. Turn on two-factor authentication if it was off.
You should see: Old sessions are harder to reuse if someone finds the unlocked phone before it is erased.
Request a replacement SIM
Ask the carrier to issue a replacement SIM or eSIM for the same number once you are ready. Activate it only on your new or replacement phone using the carrier’s instructions.
You should see: Your number works again on a SIM you control, while the lost SIM stays blocked.
Erase the lost phone if recovery is unlikely
If you do not expect to get the phone back and it still appears online in Find My / Find My Device, use the official erase option. Know that erase may remove the ability to keep locating it afterward.
You should see: Personal data on the lost handset is wiped when the device next connects.

Extra tips
What to look for: Confirmation from the carrier that the SIM or mobile line is suspended or blacklisted, and that a replacement SIM can be issued.
Before you change anything: Have your account PIN/passphrase and approximate phone number ready. Note the phone brand and model if you know them. Use official carrier phone numbers from the provider website or a paper bill—not numbers from unexpected texts. Never share one-time codes with anyone who calls claiming they are the carrier.
