How do I find a phone left in an Uber when I cannot open the Uber app?

Answer

Use a computer for two parallel paths: Google Find My Device or Apple Find My for the phone’s location, and Uber’s website lost-item process for the trip. Account recovery on the official Uber site can work with email or an alternate phone number even when the lost phone is offline.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not send money to someone claiming they found your phone unless arranged through official Uber guidance.
  • Erasing the device remotely can make recovery harder if you still hope to get it back, but it may be necessary for privacy.

Follow these steps

  1. Locate or secure the phone with Find My

On a computer, open Google’s official Find My Device page for Android, or iCloud Find My for iPhone. Sign in with the account on the lost phone and use Play Sound, Secure Device, or note the last location.

You should see: You see a recent map location or confirm the device is offline but marked lost.

  2. Sign into Uber on the web

In a browser, open Uber’s official website or riders site, sign in with email, and use email verification or another approved method if SMS to the lost phone is unavailable.

You should see: You reach trip history without needing the lost phone’s app.

  3. Report the lost item on that trip

Open the trip around the time the phone was left and follow Uber’s official lost item or contact driver options. Describe the phone and where it may have been left.

You should see: Uber opens a lost-item contact path for that trip.

  4. Change key account passwords if the phone stays missing

From the computer, change Google or Apple account passwords and enable stronger recovery options so a finder cannot use saved logins.

You should see: Primary accounts are secured even if the handset is not recovered immediately.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether Find My still shows a recent location, and whether Uber web login accepts email verification without the lost handset.

Before you change anything: Borrow a computer or trusted phone. Have your Google or Apple account email ready. Use only official Uber and Find My pages.
