How do I finish iPhone setup so I can make calls?
Answer
Open Settings and complete any Finish Setting Up iPhone prompts, then confirm cellular service is on and your number appears under Settings > Phone > My Number. If the phone still cannot place calls, check No Service / SIM or eSIM status and contact your carrier to finish activation. Apple Pay and Siri setup reminders alone do not usually block calling once the cellular line is active.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Erasing the iPhone will not fix a carrier provisioning problem and can add Activation Lock risk if you sign out incorrectly.
Follow these steps
Complete Finish Setting Up in Settings
Open Settings and tap the Finish Setting Up iPhone banner if shown. Follow the remaining Apple Pay, Siri, or iCloud screens you want to complete, or choose options to set them up later when the flow allows.
You should see: The setup reminder clears or no longer blocks other Settings pages.
Verify the cellular line and My Number
Go to Settings > Cellular and confirm the plan is on. Open Settings > Phone and check that My Number shows your real number. Toggle Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds, then off, and try a test call.
You should see: Signal appears and a test call connects, or you still see No Service to report.
Confirm SIM or eSIM installation
Open Settings > General > About and confirm IMEI and ICCID values appear. If you have a physical SIM, reseat it. If eSIM setup never finished, open Settings > Cellular and look for Add eSIM or carrier install instructions from your original purchase.
You should see: The phone shows an installed cellular plan for your carrier.
Finish activation with the carrier if needed
If calling still fails after setup screens are done, contact your carrier’s official activation support with the iPhone IMEI. Ask them to complete or refresh line activation on this device.
You should see: The carrier confirms the number is active and calls work.

Extra tips
What to look for: Finish Setting Up iPhone, Apple Pay and Siri ready to be set up, No Service, Cellular Plan labels, and Settings > Phone > My Number.
Before you change anything: Know whether you use a physical SIM or eSIM. Have your carrier account info ready if activation is incomplete. Do not erase the iPhone to clear a setup banner. Skip any unexpected popup that asks for payment to unlock calling.
