How do I fix a Kindle book stuck as Queued when apps already have it?

Answer

When a book is Queued on a Kindle but already delivered to phone and tablet apps, the e-reader usually needs a sync refresh, enough free storage, and a stable Wi‑Fi session. Restart the Kindle with a long power hold, connect to Wi‑Fi, then sync from the home screen or Your Library.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Removing a download from the Kindle deletes the local file only; the purchase remains in your Amazon library.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm Wi‑Fi and free space on the Kindle

On the Kindle, open Wi‑Fi settings and join your network. Then check storage under device settings and free several hundred MB if the device is nearly full by removing unused downloads.

You should see: Wi‑Fi shows connected and the Kindle has enough space for another book download.

  2. Restart the Kindle fully

Press and hold the power button for about 40 seconds until the screen goes blank and the device restarts, even if a short press alone did not help.

You should see: The Kindle reboots to the home screen and reconnects to Wi‑Fi.

  3. Sync the Kindle library

From the home screen or library menu, choose Sync or Sync My Kindle. Wait a minute with the screen awake, then open the Queued title again.

You should see: Status changes from Queued to Downloading or the book opens for reading.

  4. Re-deliver the book from Amazon’s devices page

On a computer or phone browser, sign in at Amazon’s Manage Your Content and Devices, find the book, and use Deliver or Download & transfer to send it specifically to the Kindle e-reader. Then sync the Kindle again.

You should see: Amazon queues a fresh delivery to that Kindle and the Queued status clears after sync.

  5. Remove the stuck download and fetch again

On the Kindle, long-press the Queued title and remove download / delete from device (not from Amazon cloud). Then open Cloud/All items and tap the book to download again.

You should see: A new download starts instead of remaining stuck on the old Queued entry.

Extra tips

What to look for: The word Queued on the Kindle library cover or progress text, Wi‑Fi connectivity on the Kindle, free storage space, and whether the same Amazon account is registered on the Kindle and the mobile apps.

Before you change anything: Confirm the Kindle is registered to the same Amazon account that shows the book on iPhone/iPad. Connect the Kindle to a known-good Wi‑Fi network. Note the book title and whether other books download normally. Use only Amazon’s official Manage Your Content and Devices pages—not random download sites.
