How do I report a phone left in an Uber ride?

Answer

Use Trip Help in the Uber app for the completed trip and choose the option for a lost item so the driver can be contacted through Uber. In parallel, lock the phone with Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) so it cannot be used if someone else has it.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Be cautious of anyone asking for payment outside Uber’s official lost-item process; that can be a scam.

Follow these steps

  1. Open Trip Help for the ride

On another device, open the Uber app or website, select the completed trip, open Trip Help, and choose the lost-item option (wording may be similar to “I lost an item” or “someone lost an item”).

You should see: Uber shows a way to message or request help from the driver about the lost phone.

  2. Lock an iPhone with Find My

If the missing phone is an iPhone, sign in to iCloud.com/find or the Find My app on another Apple device, select the phone, and turn on Lost Mode with a phone number where you can be reached.

You should see: The iPhone is marked lost and shows a lock screen message with your contact number.

  3. Secure an Android phone

If the missing phone is Android, open google.com/android/find (or Find My Device), select the phone, and use Secure device / Lock so a PIN or password is required to unlock it.

You should see: The Android phone is locked remotely and shows your contact message if that option is available.

  4. Follow up only through Uber

Reply only inside Uber’s trip help thread. If the driver confirms the phone, arrange return using Uber’s guidance rather than sharing account passwords.

You should see: You have a clear next step for pickup or return without giving out sign-in credentials.

Extra tips

What to look for: The completed trip in Uber’s history, Trip Help wording such as “I lost an item,” and whether the missing phone is an iPhone or Android so you can open the matching Find My / Find My Device tools.

Before you change anything: Confirm which Uber trip the phone was left on and the approximate time. Use another phone, tablet, or computer to open Uber and Find My / Find My Device. Do not share unlock codes, Apple ID, or Google passwords with anyone claiming to have the phone. Avoid paying fees demanded outside Uber’s official lost-item process.
