How do I recover a phone left in an Uber?
Answer
Report the phone through Uber’s official Lost Item help flow for that specific trip. Provide a callback number the driver can reach, and do not wipe the phone remotely until you decide whether recovery is still possible.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Erasing the phone remotely removes data and can make it harder for a finder to identify or return it.
- Only use Uber’s in-app or official website Lost Item process. Ignore unexpected texts or calls asking for passwords.
Follow these steps
Open Uber Lost Item help
In the Uber app or on Uber’s website, open Help for the completed trip and choose the official Lost Item / Find lost item option.
You should see: Uber shows a lost-item form for that specific ride.
Describe the phone and trip
Enter what was left (for example, iPhone 12), where it may have been in the car, and any details that help the driver identify it.
You should see: The report submits successfully and Uber confirms the request was sent.
Add a reachable callback number
Enter a phone number you can answer. Prefer a number that can display on the lost phone’s lock screen if you use Find My Lost Mode, without erasing the device yet.
You should see: The driver or Uber has a way to contact you if the phone is found.
Use Find My carefully
If the phone is an iPhone signed into Find My, check the last location and consider Lost Mode with a contact number. Avoid Erase This Device until recovery attempts are finished.
You should see: You see a last known location or Lost Mode status without wiping the phone prematurely.

Extra tips
What to look for: The completed trip in the Uber app, the Lost Item or Find lost item help option for that trip, and any callback number field shown to the driver.
Before you change anything: Open the Uber account that took the trip, not a different profile. Have the approximate pickup and drop-off details ready to identify the right ride. Decide whether Find My / Lost Mode should show a contact number without erasing the phone yet. Never share account passwords with someone claiming to be Uber support by phone or text.
