How do I fix a Google Nest device that cannot connect to an iPhone?
Answer
Nest setup failures on an iPhone are often Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth handoff issues. Put the phone on the 2.4 GHz home network if needed, toggle Airplane Mode with Wi‑Fi back on, restart the phone and router, update the Nest/Google Home app, then try Add product again with the Nest in pairing mode.
Follow these steps
Refresh the iPhone’s network path
On the iPhone, turn on Airplane Mode, wait about 15 seconds, then turn Wi‑Fi back on while staying in Airplane Mode if needed so cellular is off. Join the home Wi‑Fi network you want the Nest to use, preferably the 2.4 GHz SSID if bands are separate.
You should see: The iPhone has a stable Wi‑Fi connection and is not stuck on a guest or Nest temporary network from a failed attempt.
Restart the iPhone and router
Restart the iPhone. Then unplug the router for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait until Wi‑Fi is fully back before opening the Nest or Google Home app again.
You should see: Both phone and router are freshly started and devices can join Wi‑Fi normally.
Update the app and retry Add product
Update the Nest app or Google Home app if an update is available. Open Add product / Set up device, grant Bluetooth and Local Network permissions when iOS asks, and follow the Nest display prompts to enter pairing mode.
You should see: The app finds the Nest and continues Wi‑Fi setup, or shows a specific error code you can look up.
Finish setup and check heat mode
Complete Wi‑Fi login in the app using the on-screen Nest codes or QR flow. After the Nest is online, open the thermostat controls and confirm mode is Heat, Cool, or Off as you intend—not stuck from the failed offline state. Retry Add product only after removing a partial failed device entry if the app still lists a broken setup.
You should see: The Nest appears online in the app and responds to temperature or mode changes from the phone.

Extra tips
What to look for: Nest or Google Home Add product failures, Nest display error codes, phone stuck off the Nest’s setup network, and any heat-mode or offline status
Before you change anything: Confirm you are using the Google account that already owns the Nest, if it was set up before. Stand near the Nest and the router during setup. Prefer the 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network if your router splits bands. Never share Google account codes with unexpected callers offering to “pair” the Nest.
