How do I fix a Bose soundbar stuck on a scrolling white light?

Answer

A Bose soundbar with a white light scrolling for a long time is often stuck in startup or a failed update. A full power unplug, a patient wait after reconnecting, and then the model’s correct button reset—such as Volume Down plus Play/Pause on a Bose Smart Soundbar 900—usually clears it.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • A factory-style reset can remove Wi‑Fi and source settings; you may need to set the soundbar up again in the Bose Music app.
  • Unplug from the wall outlet; do not open the soundbar housing yourself.

Follow these steps

  1. Hard power-cycle the soundbar

Unplug the soundbar from wall power for a full 60 seconds. Leave HDMI and other cables connected unless Bose’s guide for your model says otherwise. Plug it back into a known-good outlet.

You should see: The light sequence restarts from the beginning instead of immediately looping the same scroll.

  2. Wait and watch the light bar

After power returns, wait up to about 10 minutes without pressing other buttons. Watch whether the scrolling white light stops, turns solid, or changes color. Check the Bose Music app only after that wait.

You should see: The bar finishes startup, or the scrolling white light continues unchanged.

  3. Perform the model reset

For a Bose Smart Soundbar 900, press and hold Volume Down and Play/Pause on the soundbar for about 5 seconds, or until the light indicates reset, following Bose’s reset guide for your exact model if the buttons differ. Allow the bar to reboot fully afterward.

You should see: The soundbar restarts cleanly, or it again returns to scrolling white after a brief green flash.

  4. Contact Bose if it stays stuck

If the scrolling white light continues for hours after power-cycle and the correct reset, note the model, how long it scrolled, and any app messages, then contact Bose support for service or firmware recovery options.

You should see: You have the details needed for Bose support or warranty service.

Extra tips

What to look for: White light scrolling for a long time, brief green flashing after reset, and any Bose Music app or TV message about an update or error

Before you change anything: Confirm the exact Bose soundbar model from the label or app. Leave the bar plugged into a working outlet—not a switched strip that cuts power randomly. Note any update message in the Bose Music app before resetting. Do not keep forcing resets every few seconds; allow each attempt time to finish.
