Why does a Samsung TV play a voice I cannot understand, or sound full of static?

Answer

First decide whether the voice is a calm narrator describing on-screen action (often Audio Description) or harsh crackling static. Turn off Audio Description / accessibility narration for the first case; for static, check HDMI/cable connections, alternate audio tracks, and external speakers.

Follow these steps

  1. Identify narrator vs static

Play the same content for a minute and decide: does a person describe what is happening on screen, or is the audio crackling/distorted with no clear narration?

You should see: You know whether to chase accessibility/audio-description settings or a signal/hardware problem.

  2. Turn off Audio Description

If it sounds like narration, open Settings and look under Accessibility or Audio Description (wording varies by year) and turn Audio Description / Video Description off. Also check the content app’s audio or accessibility menu.

You should see: The extra narrator voice stops and normal dialogue remains.

  3. Switch audio track or SAP

For live TV or an app, open the audio, language, or SAP option and select the main stereo track instead of a secondary or descriptive track.

You should see: Clear primary audio plays without the hard-to-follow voice.

  4. Fix crackling with cables and outputs

If the problem is static, reseat HDMI or antenna cables, try TV speakers instead of the soundbar, and test another app or channel. Update TV software if the crackling happens on every source.

You should see: Static is gone on TV speakers or on a different cable/source, narrowing the fault.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the voice sounds like a narrator describing the scene versus crackling/static, and whether menus mention Audio Description, Accessibility, or secondary audio (SAP).

Before you change anything: Note the exact Samsung device (TV model helps) and whether headphones, a soundbar, or TV speakers are in use. Try more than one app or channel before changing advanced settings. Avoid factory resets until accessibility and cable checks are done. Never share account passwords or codes with unexpected callers.
