How do I fix an iPhone that cannot connect to the internet?

Answer

When an iPhone cannot connect, refresh the radios first: toggle Airplane Mode, restart, then confirm Cellular Data is on and your Wi‑Fi network appears with a valid connection. If Wi‑Fi connects but has no internet, the next place to look is the home modem/router or ISP outage—not the Apple ID.

Follow these steps

  1. Toggle Airplane Mode

Open Control Center or Settings, turn Airplane Mode on for about 10 seconds, then turn it off and wait for Wi‑Fi and cellular indicators to return.

You should see: Signal icons refresh, or you still see a clear offline state to check next.

  2. Restart the iPhone

Power the iPhone fully off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on and try Safari or another simple website.

You should see: Internet access returns, or the same failure continues after boot.

  3. Confirm Cellular Data is on

Go to Settings > Cellular and make sure Cellular Data is enabled. If you use a dual SIM, confirm the line you expect is selected for cellular data.

You should see: Cellular Data is on and apps can use the mobile network when Wi‑Fi is unavailable.

  4. Check home Wi‑Fi

Go to Settings > Wi‑Fi, select your home network, and confirm it connects. If it connects with a warning or no internet, restart the modem/router and test another device on the same Wi‑Fi.

You should see: The iPhone joins Wi‑Fi with working internet, or you confirm a modem/ISP issue affecting more than one device.

Extra tips

What to look for: No Wi‑Fi icon, Wi‑Fi connected without internet, Cellular Data Off, No Service, or Safari failing while other devices on the same network work

Before you change anything: Note whether other phones or computers on the same Wi‑Fi still work. Check whether the failure is Wi‑Fi only, cellular only, or both. Stay on the official Settings app—avoid popups that ask you to pay to restore internet. Never share passwords or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
