How do I contact an Uber driver about a phone left in the car?

Answer

Sign in to the same Uber rider account on another phone or computer, open the completed trip, and use Uber’s Lost item / Contact driver about a lost item option. That is usually faster than trying to call the driver directly.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Avoid third-party sites or callers that demand upfront payment outside Uber to recover a lost phone.

Follow these steps

  1. Sign in on another device

On a borrowed phone, tablet, or computer, open the Uber app or go to Uber’s official rider site and sign in with the same account that took the trip.

You should see: You reach your Uber rider home or account screen.

  2. Open the completed trip

Open Account or Activity / Trips, find the recent Chicago ride where the phone was left, and open that trip’s details.

You should see: You see the correct completed trip with date, time, and route summary.

  3. Start Uber’s lost-item contact flow

Choose Find lost item, I lost an item, or Contact driver about a lost item (wording varies). Follow Uber’s prompts to describe the phone and send the message through Uber.

You should see: Uber accepts the lost-item request and shows that the driver can be contacted through the app.

  4. Watch for Uber replies and next steps

Keep notifications on for Uber on the borrowed device, reply only inside Uber’s thread, and use any official return or fee instructions Uber shows. If the trip is too old for in-app contact, use Uber Help for that trip instead.

You should see: You either hear from the driver through Uber or get Uber Help’s next official option.

Extra tips

What to look for: The completed Chicago trip in Uber trip history and a Lost item or similar contact option for that ride.

Before you change anything: Use the same Uber account that booked the trip. Have the approximate pickup time and drop-off area ready. Prefer Uber’s official app or riders.uber.com over random “find my driver” sites. Never share your Uber password or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
