How do I find a phone left in an Uber ride?
Answer
Use Uber’s official lost item flow for that trip to contact the driver, and use Find My on iPhone or Find My Device on Android from another logged-in device or the web. Do both quickly, because drivers move on to other trips.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Anyone who texts or calls claiming they found your phone and asking for codes, remote access, or upfront payment outside Uber’s process may be running a scam.
- Erasing the phone remotely can make it safer if recovery fails, but it also removes the chance to play a sound or show a rich lock-screen return message afterward.
Follow these steps
Open the trip in the Uber app or website
On another device, sign in at the official Uber app or uber.com. Open Account or Activity, select the trip where the phone was left, and look for Help or Contact driver about a lost item.
You should see: You reach Uber’s lost-item contact options for that specific ride.
Message the driver about the phone
Send a clear lost-item message that names the phone brand or case color and where it may have slid in the seat. Use only Uber’s in-app contact tools so your personal number stays protected unless Uber’s process requires otherwise.
You should see: The driver is notified through Uber and can confirm whether the phone is still in the car.
Locate the phone with Find My or Find My Device
If the lost phone is an iPhone, open Find My on another Apple device or iCloud.com. If it is Android, open Google Find My Device on the web or another Android phone. Play sound if it may still be nearby, and note the last reported location.
You should see: You see a current or recent map location, or you learn the phone is offline so Uber driver contact matters even more.
Secure accounts while you wait
From a working device, change passwords for email and other critical accounts if you believe the phone is unlocked or unattended. Mark the phone lost in Find My or Find My Device so others see a return message without giving them your account access.
You should see: Your accounts are harder to misuse while you arrange pickup or return through Uber.

Extra tips
What to look for: The completed Uber trip receipt with Contact driver or lost item options, and whether the phone still shows a recent location in Find My or Find My Device.
Before you change anything: Find another phone, tablet, or computer you can use right away. Have your Uber account email or phone number ready for official login only. Do not factory-erase the lost phone until you decide recovery is impossible. Never share passwords or one-time codes with unexpected callers claiming they found your phone.
