How do I fix Apple CarPlay when the car says no device found?

Answer

A no-device-found CarPlay error usually means the iPhone and car head unit need a clean restart, and the cable or wireless pairing session must be established again from both sides.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Only interact with CarPlay setup while the vehicle is safely parked.

Follow these steps

  1. Restart the iPhone

Restart the iPhone, unlock it, and keep it on the Lock Screen or Home Screen during the next connection attempt.

You should see: The iPhone is ready to present CarPlay when the car asks.

  2. Reboot the car’s MMI system

With the vehicle in park, hold the volume or power knob for about 10 to 15 seconds until the MMI screen restarts, then wait for it to finish booting.

You should see: The car interface reloads and CarPlay can be tried again.

  3. Forget and re-add CarPlay

On the iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, select the vehicle, choose Forget This Car if listed, then reconnect by cable or wireless pairing.

You should see: The car appears again and prompts to enable CarPlay.

  4. Try a different cable or USB port

For wired CarPlay, use a different Apple-certified USB cable and the vehicle USB port labeled for data or CarPlay, not charge-only.

You should see: The iPhone is detected and CarPlay launches, or wireless pairing becomes the next path.

  5. Toggle CarPlay-related iPhone settings

Confirm CarPlay is allowed, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on for wireless CarPlay, and then retry from the car’s Apple CarPlay menu.

You should see: CarPlay connects without the no-device-found message.

Extra tips

What to look for: A No device found, Connection failed, or similar CarPlay message on the car screen while the iPhone is unlocked nearby or plugged in

Before you change anything: Confirm CarPlay is enabled in iPhone Settings > General > CarPlay. Use an Apple-certified cable if connecting by USB. Note whether the car supports wired, wireless, or both. Avoid unknown CarPlay “fixer” apps.
