Why does Universal Control see a StudioLive mixer on one Mac but not on a MacBook or iPad?

Answer

When one computer controls a StudioLive 32R and others do not, the usual cause is a network, discovery, or app/device compatibility mismatch—not a failed mixer. Put every device on the same working network path the desktop uses, then reopen Universal Control and confirm the mixer’s network mode.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not install remote-control apps or firmware from unexpected popups or texts.
  • A mixer factory reset can erase scenes and network settings; use it only after network matching fails and you have a restore plan.

Follow these steps

  1. Compare the networks each device uses

On the working desktop Mac, note whether Universal Control reaches the 32R over Ethernet or a specific Wi‑Fi network. On the MacBook and iPad, join that same private network—not a guest, hotspot, or different band/SSID—and turn off VPN if it is on.

You should see: All control devices are on the same local network path the mixer already uses with the desktop.

  2. Confirm the mixer’s network mode

Using the desktop that already works, check the StudioLive 32R network or control settings in Universal Control and confirm wireless control is enabled the way your setup expects. Leave the mixer powered on during the next checks.

You should see: The 32R remains online and ready for additional clients on the same network.

  3. Relaunch Universal Control on the MacBook and iPad

Fully quit Universal Control on the MacBook and iPad, reconnect to the matched network, reopen the app, and wait for the device list to refresh. On iPad, also check Local Network permission for the app in Settings if iPadOS asks.

You should see: The StudioLive 32R appears in the device list, or you get a clearer discovery failure.

  4. Check app and firmware compatibility

Compare Universal Control versions on the working desktop versus the MacBook/iPad, and verify the 32R firmware is one those clients support. Update only through the official updater or support path for your PreSonus/Fender software.

You should see: Client apps and mixer firmware are on a compatible combination.

  5. Test one portable device at a time

With the desktop disconnected from control if needed, try the MacBook alone, then the iPad alone. Note which device still fails so you can focus on that client’s Wi‑Fi, firewall, or app permission issue.

You should see: You know whether the problem is one portable device, both, or still network-wide.

Extra tips

What to look for: StudioLive 32R visible only on the desktop Mac, same Wi‑Fi/SSID vs guest network, VPN status, and Universal Control device list on each client

Before you change anything: Note which Mac already controls the 32R successfully. Write down the Wi‑Fi name used by the desktop, MacBook, and iPad. Avoid factory-resetting the mixer until network matching is checked. Download Universal Control only from the official PreSonus/Fender source you already trust for this setup.
