How do I fix a Samsung Galaxy phone that will not connect to any network?

Answer

When a Samsung Galaxy will not join any mobile network, start with Airplane mode, a SIM reseat, then a mobile network settings reset before chasing deeper carrier or software issues.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Resetting network settings removes saved Wi-Fi passwords and may reset Bluetooth pairings; it does not wipe personal files.

Follow these steps

  1. Toggle Airplane mode

Swipe down to open quick settings, turn Airplane mode on for about 30 seconds, then turn it off and wait for the phone to search for a network.

You should see: Carrier name or signal bars return, or the phone still cannot connect.

  2. Reseat the SIM and restart

Power the phone off, remove the SIM tray, take the SIM out, reinsert it firmly in the correct orientation, then power the phone back on.

You should see: The phone detects the SIM and either connects or shows a clearer SIM or network status.

  3. Reset mobile network settings

Go to Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings or Reset mobile network settings, confirm, then reconnect to Wi-Fi afterward if needed.

You should see: Network settings return to defaults and the phone attempts to register on the carrier again.

  4. Install pending software updates

While on Wi-Fi, go to Settings > Software update and install any available update, then restart and check mobile service again.

You should see: The phone is up to date, or you confirm no update is available and the network problem remains.

  5. Confirm the line with the carrier

If the Galaxy still will not connect to any network, contact the mobile carrier to verify the SIM is active and provisioned for that phone.

You should see: The carrier confirms the account status or replaces or re-provisions the SIM.

Extra tips

What to look for: No signal bars, No Service, or an inability to connect to any mobile network without a clear error icon

Before you change anything: Note whether Wi-Fi still works and whether this started after a software update. Have the SIM PIN ready if the phone asks for it after reseating the card. Back up important data before any full device reset; a network reset alone does not erase photos. Never share account passwords with unexpected callers.
