How do I transfer Straight Talk service to a new phone without a usable SIM?
Answer
If the old Straight Talk SIM is missing or unusable, activate the new phone with a Straight Talk eSIM (if the phone supports it) or a new BYOP / replacement SIM kit from Straight Talk. Complete activation in the official Straight Talk app or on straighttalk.com—not through random third-party links.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Only activate through the official Straight Talk app or straighttalk.com.
- Activating a new SIM/eSIM can disconnect the old device once the number moves.
Follow these steps
Confirm the new phone’s IMEI and network type
On the new phone, open Settings and find the IMEI (often under About phone). Note whether the phone supports eSIM. Keep the IMEI handy for activation.
You should see: You have the IMEI and know whether eSIM activation is an option.
Choose eSIM or a new physical SIM
If the phone supports Straight Talk eSIM, plan to activate in the Straight Talk app or on straighttalk.com. If not, get an official Straight Talk BYOP or replacement SIM kit before continuing.
You should see: You have a valid Straight Talk SIM path for the new device.
Start official activation
Open the Straight Talk app or go to straighttalk.com, sign in to the account, and start Activate or Bring Your Own Phone. Enter the IMEI and new SIM/eSIM details when asked.
You should see: Activation begins and asks whether to keep your existing Straight Talk number.
Keep the same phone number when offered
When prompted, choose to transfer or keep your current Straight Talk number, then follow the on-screen network setup until service shows active.
You should see: The new phone connects to the Straight Talk network with the intended number.
Fix a persistent SIM invalid message
If the phone still says SIM invalid, restart the phone, confirm the SIM is seated correctly (for physical SIM), and recheck activation status in the Straight Talk account. Contact Straight Talk support with the IMEI if activation shows complete but the phone still rejects the SIM.
You should see: Either service registers normally or support identifies a compatibility or provisioning issue.

Extra tips
What to look for: A SIM invalid or No SIM message, whether the new phone supports eSIM, and Straight Talk activation screens asking for IMEI, SIM ICCID, or the existing phone number.
Before you change anything: Have the Straight Talk account PIN / security info and the phone number you want to keep. Find the new phone’s IMEI in Settings or on the box/SIM tray. Confirm the new phone is unlocked and Straight Talk–compatible. Do not share account passwords or codes with unexpected callers.
