How do I authorize an e-reader with Adobe Digital Editions?

Install or open Adobe Digital Editions on a computer, authorize that computer with your Adobe ID, then connect the e-reader and authorize the device with the same Adobe ID. Books fail when the reader and computer are authorized to different IDs or not authorized at all.
Follow these steps
Open Adobe Digital Editions
On the Windows computer, open Adobe Digital Editions. If it is not installed, download it only from Adobe’s official site, then open it.
You should see: Adobe Digital Editions launches to its library or authorization screen.
Authorize the computer with your Adobe ID
In Adobe Digital Editions, open Help or the authorization menu and choose Authorize Computer. Sign in with the same Adobe ID used for the book, not a new unused ID.

Connect and authorize the e-reader

Transfer or reopen the book
