How do I fix a TCL TV that will not turn on or has no volume?
Answer
Unplug the TCL TV for a full power reset, plug it back in, then try power and volume from the TV buttons if the remote fails. Select the correct HDMI input (such as HDMI 1) for your device once the TV picture returns.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Unplug the TV before inspecting ports; do not open the TV case yourself.
Follow these steps
Power-reset the TCL TV
Turn the TV off if it responds, unplug the power cord from the wall, wait at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and press the TV’s physical power button.
You should see: The TV powers on, or the status light shows a clear power response.
Test volume on the TV itself
With picture on, use the TV’s volume buttons (not only the remote). If the on-screen volume bar moves but you hear nothing, also check Mute and any external soundbar power.
You should see: Volume changes on screen and sound returns, or you confirm audio is routed elsewhere.
Select the correct HDMI input
Press Source or Input on the TV or remote and select the port your device uses, often HDMI 1. Power on the computer or streaming device after the TV input is set.
You should see: The connected device’s picture and sound appear on the TCL TV.
Recheck cables if the screen stays blank
Reseat the HDMI cable at both ends, try a different HDMI port, and confirm the source device is awake. Repeat the power reset once more if needed.
You should see: Picture and audio work on a known-good HDMI path, or you have isolated a bad cable or port.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether the TV power light responds, whether volume buttons change an on-screen level, and which HDMI input is selected.
Before you change anything: Confirm the wall outlet works with another device. Note which HDMI port your cable box, computer, or streaming stick uses. Keep the TV unplugged for at least 60 seconds during a power reset. Never share account passwords or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
